Symptoms of osteoarthritis of the hip joint and its treatment

Manifestations of osteoarthritis of the hip joint

Osteoarthritis of the hip joint is a disease called coxarthrosis. The trick of the disease is that it differs in an imperceptible course for a long time.

Symptoms cannot alarm the patient for more than two years until they gradually worsen and force him to see a doctor.

The symptoms are divided into 3 degrees depending on the severity.

Disease symptoms

The main symptom is joint pain when walking. With chronic disease, the coxarthrosis sometimes worsens - and then the pain becomes worse. Often localization occurs in the groin, on the outside of the thigh, its front, and echoes in the knee or buttocks. The pain causes a change in gait as the patient adjusts and tries to avoid pain. This can lead to a shortening of the legs (especially in advanced cases). Let's take a closer look at the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Attention!The disease mainly affects women.

Arthrosis of the hip joint - grade 1

It is characterized by mild, aching pain that occurs after significant physical exertion, mainly when running or walking for a long period of time. The pain disappears quickly after rest without disturbing the dynamics of movement, therefore it does not cause the patient to be alert. Small bone changes are visible on the X-ray - growth that does not go beyond the joint lip.

Arthrosis of the hip joint - grade 2

The pain becomes more intense, localized in the joint, radiates to the groin and thigh and occurs even at rest. The work of the joint is impaired, and long walking leads to lameness. Hip abduction and internal rotation are limited, and the muscles that allow hip abduction and extension become weaker.

Arthrosis of the hip joint - grade 3

Coxarthrosis pain is a constant bother for the patient and also occurs at night. The muscles of the leg (thigh, lower leg) and buttocks atrophy, their volume decreases, a stick is needed during walking. This leads to a shortening of the limb, the patient has to stand on toes and lean forward. In Grade 3 of the disease, painful sensations in the knee are often more severe than in the groin or thigh, so the doctor may make a mistake in diagnosing it.

Causes of the disease

There are many reasons for coxarthrosis. Let's look at the main ones:

  1. Excessive stress on the joint, its injuries, especially in athletes.
  2. Hereditary diseases. These include congenital hip dislocation, hip dysplasia, and others.
  3. Hereditary disposition. Despite the fact that coxarthrosis is not genetically transmitted, a child from relatives can inherit a weak skeleton or structural features of cartilage tissue.
  4. Arthritis, even if healed, can cause osteoarthritis of the hip joint.
  5. Chronic stress and long-term experiences have extremely negative effects on joint health, according to scientists.
  6. Infarct (aseptic necrosis) of the hip joint leads to circulatory disorders.
  7. Changes at the hormonal level, diabetes mellitus, loss of sensitivity of the lower extremities in nervous diseases.

Important!Significantly increases the risk of developing obesity. In 5-10% of cases, this leads to the development of the disease.

Treatment with folk remedies

bees

Treatment of hip osteoarthritis by bees

By-products have become established as effective treatments for many internal diseases. It is not surprising that bees can also help deform joints - bee venom has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, normalizes the mobility of diseased joints, relieves swelling and prevents deterioration. Mainly, bee sting is used, which is prescribed only by a specialist. Therapy starts with a bite, but usually the result is visible after the first procedure. The poison works at the site of inflammation and helps the body fight the infection on its own. In addition, it helps cope with other problems in the body - clearing infections, restoring the functioning of the nervous system, and stopping the aging of the body.

sludge treatment

Mud packs provide positive results as a complementary therapy. The efficiency of heated mud is higher, so it is recommended to warm it to 40 degrees before use. Apply a mud cake (clay diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 7) on the damaged joint and fix it with a sheet, oilcloth and warm it with a towel. The duration of the procedure is 30 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water and let sit for half an hour. Do wraps at least once a day for a month.

The following types of dirt are used:

  • silt;
  • peat;
  • sapropel.

Gelatin treatment

Gelatin is a natural substance that has been used by mankind for centuries. Its main advantage is that it is not only useful but also completely safe.

Attention!Gelatin helps to improve the condition of the hair, eliminate dryness and hair loss, and improve the functionality of the entire body. To cure the hair, it is enough to dilute the powder with cold water and dilute it with shampoo in equal parts when brewing.

What are the benefits of gelatin for joints? It contains amino acids that give elasticity to joints and slow down (or stop at all) their destructive changes. In terms of chemical makeup, gelatin is collagen and is nearly 90% protein, and protein foods are especially useful for joint problems.

Gelatin for the treatment of hip osteoarthritis

Patients who take gelatin notice a decrease in the pathological process and intensity of joint pain, which allows them to move more freely. Of course, it cannot be considered the main type of treatment, but when combined with other measures, it is very effective.

How to make gelatin:

  1. Pour a teaspoon of powder with half a glass of cold water (pre-boiled).
  2. Let it go - it should swell.
  3. Add to a cup of hot water in the morning and stir in a teaspoon of honey for sweetness and added impact.
  4. Take the gelatine warm on an empty stomach in the morning after stirring.
  5. course: 10 days treatment / 10 days break for 3 months.

Leech healing

Hirudotherapy (or treatment with leeches) gives positive results in the initial stages of the disease - I and II. The advantage of a leech bite is that its saliva contains enzymes, the action of which is equivalent to the action of drugs that enter the periarticular regionbe injected. In addition, leeches improve blood circulation in the area of the damaged joint.

In stage III of coxarthrosis, the use of leeches eliminates nightly joint pain and pain at rest. In the postoperative period, the recovery of damaged muscles and joints is accelerated.

The procedures are carried out every 2-6 days. The course includes 6-8 sessions. 4 to 8 medicinal leeches are used during the session. A noticeable improvement is already observed after 4 sessions, but the maximum effect is reached approximately 2 weeks after the end of the hirudotherapy.

herbs

Traditional medicine prescriptions are often the only way to get rid of a difficult disease. Herbs are used both topically and internally. Some of them even help with grade III coxarthrosis.

Herbs for treating hip osteoarthritis

Recipe No. 1:

  1. You need lemon (3 pieces), celery (250 g), garlic (120 g).
  2. After grinding, put the ingredients in a 3-liter glass, cover with boiling water and warm with a blanket, leave to stand overnight.
  3. Take the medicine in the morning, 70 g daily, half an hour before meals, for three months. Banks are often enough for a month.

Stir and consume one glass every day for a month.

Attention! Before consuming lemon, make sure your stomach acid isn't too acidic - citrus fruits increase it.

Recipe No. 2. Take 3 lemons, finely chop them together with the peel, pour boiling water (three liters) and let it cool completely, then dissolve 3 tbsp. l. Linden honey.

Tip!When your tendons and muscles are straining, you can prepare celandine oil. Take 8 tbsp. l. Grind the flowers and stems of the plant and cover with 1 liter of olive oil. Let the oil stand in a warm place for 2 weeks. When it is infused, strain and rub into the painful areas, isolating them with a warm cloth.

Lapping for joint pain

Take equal parts iodine, glycerin, alcohol and flower honey. After 2-3 hours, the drug is ready. You need to use it by applying it to a cotton swab and thoroughly rubbing it into the skin in the area of the sore joint. It is necessary to lubricate the skin from the bottom up along the flow of lymph and blood. Lapping is more effective if the tissue surrounding the inflammation area is additionally lubricated - this improves blood circulation and allows the disease to recede.

Cabbage

Cabbage compress relieves pain in the injured joint. You need a head of cabbage, from which you need to separate several large and fresh leaves before going to bed. Lubricate the area of inflammation with flower honey and attach the cabbage. Then secure it with a plastic bag and warm it with a towel or handkerchief. In the morning, wash off the remaining honey and repeat the process. You need to walk with a compress until the evening. Repeat the process for a month.

Mint

Mint for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip joint

Peppermint ointment for joint pain.

Chop 50 g of mint and eucalyptus leaves with a knife and then add 50 ml of aloe juice.

Stir the ingredients and lubricate the sore joints three times a day.

Treatment without surgery

Sometimes patients with an extremely advanced stage of coxarthrosis come to the doctor. In this case, it is almost impossible to help them without surgery. However, medical practice shows that regular therapeutic exercises and the appointment of certain drugs can not only reduce the manifestations of the disease, but also almost completely eliminate them.

The treatment in this case is purely individual and, in addition to gymnastics, consists of taking medication to strengthen the bones. If the joint can still be saved, it makes sense to prescribe medication to restore the cartilage.

There are a number of alternative methods that help with coxarthrosis:

  1. Manual therapy.
  2. Applied kinesology (movement therapy).
  3. Hardware joint traction.
  4. Joint traction without apparatus (post-isometric relaxation).

Preparations

The following groups of drugs will help with this diagnosis.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Despite the fact that they do not treat the disease on their own, these drugs are effective at getting rid of pain and reducing severe inflammation. Their constant consumption is not recommended due to the harmful effects it has on the body.

Chondroprotectors, unlike NVPs, not only alleviate the symptoms, but also influence the basis of the disease. They restore the structure of the cartilage and improve the production of synovial fluid. However, they don't work right away - it takes at least 2-3 courses to get positive results.

Attention! Chondroprotectors can only help in the early stages of the disease.

Muscle relaxants (muscle relaxants) are good for relieving cramps in the muscles that surround inflamed tissue. They are effective in combination with joint traction and chondroprotectors, because if you do not start to repair the joint on your own, the relief of the spasm can lead to accelerated destruction.

Tip!The doctor claims that muscle oxidants rarely help to significantly improve the patient's condition, so their appointment is far from always justified.

vasodilators. They increase blood flow to the joint, which contributes to faster recovery, relieves pain, relieves vasospasm, and improves joint nutrition. Initially, the tablets are taken individually, but after a few days, if there are no side effects, they switch to the course of administration recommended by the doctor.

injections

Injections into the hip joint for osteoarthritis

injections are injected directly into the joint or periarticular tissue. Most often, however, the injection is not made into the lumen of the damaged joint, but into the periarticular tissue, as there is a high risk of overshooting and damage to the nerve endings.

  1. Corticosteroid hormones are given to relieve pain.
  2. The introduction of chondroprotectors through the thigh is very useful (2-3 courses are held per year).
  3. Hyaluronic acid, an artificial joint lubrication, should be injected into the joint lumen, which is very difficult to achieve. Therefore, the treatment is only 30% positive.

Ointments

There aren't that many effective ointments that do not always reach the joint - the process of rubbing in the ointment itself often has a positive effect and replaces a light massage. You need to rub the ointment with clean hands for 15 minutes. Circular and spiral movements from bottom to top until a feeling of warmth arises.

The composition of the ointments is different - it can be vegetable raw materials, bee and snake venom, an extract from the cartilage tissue of cattle. Ointments with honey or mustard and other warming ingredients in the composition are good. You can even prepare such funds yourself. Ointments also have an analgesic effect.

Exercises

Therapeutic gymnastics is very effective in the initial stages of the disease and sometimes turns out to be effective even in advanced cases. The main purpose of the exercise is to develop the affected joint and strengthen the muscles nearby. If you experience discomfort in the thigh area after exercising, massage should be performed to minimize the discomfort.

Important!Do not load the joint while exercising - exclude the axial load, as this can lead to deterioration. Also, try not to make sudden and deep movements.

Gymnastics for hip osteoarthritis

There are quite a few exercises that need to be done regularly - in this case, the result is really noticeable.

Here are some exercises.

  1. I. S. - standing. Grasp the support with both hands and slowly do half squats 10 times.
  2. I. S. - standing. Transfer your body weight to your sound leg and support yourself with one hand on the same side (table or back of a chair). Slowly swing your sore leg back and forth.
  3. I. p. - lying on his stomach. Put your hands on your hips and take turns lifting your straight legs.
  4. I. S. - Stand firmly on both legs and rest with both hands on the support. Stand on your toes and lower your heels to the floor. Perform - 10 times.

The exercises consist of three series and are performed slowly but surely for an hour. It is imperative to do the exercises correctly.

Diet

Proper nutrition is one of the keys to success with any disease, including osteoarthritis. Here are the products that will help restore cartilage tissue and not provoke weight gain:

  • low-fat milk and fermented milk products;
  • lean meat and fish;
  • buckwheat;
  • beans, lentils.
  1. Fats are essential for normal metabolism. Prefer unrefined vegetable and butter oils, fish or shark oils.
  2. Carbohydrates fill the body with energy. It is better to eat complex carbohydrates (vegetables, fruits) than simple ones, which include sugar and other sweets.
  3. Minerals and vitamins are found in foods like baked potatoes, bananas, nuts, eggs, chicken and whole grain bread.

Doctors advise not to consume more than 1 teaspoon of salt per day, to give up preservatives, smoked meat and other unhealthy foods with a high fat content.

Tip!Water is life. If you have coxarthrosis, drink plenty of water - up to two liters per day.

Prevention

Prevention consists of an active lifestyle, proper nutrition and avoiding excessive stress on the joints (which is often abused by athletes). Health!
